Terms of Service

Last updated: February 23, 2026

What This Service Is

TheyToldMeTo is a free tool that helps you track recommendations from friends and family — things to watch, read, listen to, play, visit, and more. You create lists, add items, share lists, and send recommendations to other users.

Your Account

You can sign up with Google, GitHub, Apple, or an email and password. Each account gets a unique username that cannot be changed — it's how other people find you. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.

Your Content

You own the content you create on TheyToldMeTo (lists, items, recommendations). We don't claim ownership of your content. By using the service, you give us permission to store and display your content as needed to operate the service (e.g. showing a shared list to someone you shared it with).

Appropriate Use

Please don't:

  • Use the service for anything illegal
  • Harass other users or send abusive recommendations
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or private data
  • Spam or send bulk unsolicited recommendations
  • Interfere with the operation of the service

Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We may also suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. When your account is deleted, your data is removed from our systems.

Limitation of Liability

TheyToldMeTo is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep the service running and your data safe, but we're not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service. This is a free tool built with care, not a guaranteed service.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the new terms.
